Services
Depending on the requirements and level of your editing or writing needs, I offer a variety of service options from which to choose:
Developmental Editing
This level of editing is all about the bigger picture: we’ll review your work together, and break down the major things that may need addressing and revising (overall structure, chapter order, content, dialogue, character development, chronology, etc.) Often done in conjunction with a copy/line edit.
Copy and Line Editing
More than just doublechecking for any errant typos, this edit doesn’t just serve to correct any errors, but also aims to improve the overall quality of the writing itself. Awkward sentences, confusing phrasing, inconsistencies, phrasing that simply doesn’t read well – I’ll take the existing language, then rewrite and polish it as needed. This is a collaborative process: I’ll track my changes (and ask you any relevant questions about the content) in Word, send you both the “clean” and “tracked” versions, have you note your feedback and/or provide answers and send back, then make another round of changes as needed. I’ll then deliver your second or final draft, depending on the scope of the project.
Proofreading
Spellcheck is far from perfect. While this is the most basic of services I offer, proofreading is often the most critical. I’ll review every word and make sure everything in your writing is perfect, spot the things spellcheck won’t (you meant “park,” but you mistyped “pack”), correct every typo, and ensure that your grammar is flawless. Just one little missing comma can turn the meaning of a simple sentence into something very, very different.
Content Development
You have an idea for a manuscript, but you’re stuck and finding it difficult to take it to the next level. I’ll bring a fresh perspective, help guide you, and develop your ideas into something more concrete. I can also then work with you on the creation and development of the actual original content, the writing, and the editing, if preferred.
Memoir Editing
I never tire of hearing peoples’ stories, and particularly excel at helping people bring those stories to life. Typically, a memoir edit involves a developmental as well as a line edit, and is very much a collaborative process.
Ghostwriting
You have a story to tell, but writing isn’t your strong suit. I’ll work with you on the structure, conduct multiple, ongoing interviews with you and transcribe as we go, outline and write your manuscript vision, and ensure that your work and personal stories always come across in your voice, not mine.
